Woodend Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in the Macedon Ranges. It began life in 1950 with a hessian water bag and two asphalt courts in Campaspe Park between the Woodend Primary School and Five Mile Creek.
It moved to the current location next to the pool in the heart of town (off the Woodend-Tylden Road) in 1983 with six acrylic courts. The clubhouse that is there today was in use by 1988 but not fully completed until 1992. After extensive flooding in 2011, the club was able to secure funding to rip up the old courts and reconstruct them using plexicushion, the same surface used for the Australian Open. After much blood sweat and tears our wonderful new tennis facility, including a modernised clubhouse and wonderful outdoor multisport entertaining area, was completed in 2014.
The club runs innovative programs and different formats such as ANZ Hot Shots, Cardio Tennis and a Fast 4 Social Competition.
If competitions are more your thing, then we have that covered too. We offer Saturday, mid-week, evening and junior competitions, as well as social hit ups. And best of all – you don’t even have to wear white!
If your skills need a bit of a tune up, our club coach Marcus Wills and his team can help you out. If you love playing under lights, they’ll turn on automatically when you Book A Court. It’s that easy.
Or you can just hire our clubrooms for a special do or work function – think vintage tennis day or lazy summer arvo barbecue.
We like to have an ‘arm around’ other local groups, which is why you can also play bridge, do yoga or dancing at our tennis club!
If you are seeking a warm, friendly and well equipped environment to hold meetings, classes, or just play a game of cards, then the Woodend Tennis Club is for you!
All of this could not be possible without the very generous support of our sponsors. Please support the people that support us.
